Bedfordshire and Luton Casualty Reduction Partnership

The Casualty Reduction Partnership is a multi-agency partnership which aims to reduce the number of people killed and injured in road traffic collisions. They organised a month-long series of events in their area directly communicating tyre safety to the public.

Why did Bedfordshire and Luton Casualty Reduction Partnership get involved?

‘Vehicle defects’ are a significant contributory factor in accidents on Britain’s roads. Many of these defects could be easily identified if the vehicle owner carried out regular checks.

This prompted the Bedfordshire and Luton Casualty Reduction Partnership not only to raise awareness of the issue but also to empower vehicles owners with the knowledge of how to carry out checks for themselves.

What did Bedfordshire and Luton Casualty Reduction Partnership do?

Working with partners Protyre and Autohome, the Bedfordshire and Luton Casualty Reduction Partnership carried this message directly to its audience through a series of events.

Across workplaces and partner facilities, mechanics, tyre experts and road safety officers supported the activities with expert advice.

Female drivers were also given the opportunity to hone their skills at ‘ladies only’ evenings.

The result

Over the course of the campaign, more than 1600 vehicles inspected had incorrect pressures, and of the 1411 tyres categorised as ‘in need of replacement’, 49 were already illegal.

The 36 ladies evenings were such a success, the Bedfordshire and Luton Casualty Reduction Partnership are planning to continue the programme, and add ‘men only’ sessions.
