Supporting the People Behind Social Housing: How CJAM Helps SHLA Deliver for its Members

Social housing is a sector where change can have an immediate impact on the professionals working within it.

New legislation, regulation, case law and emerging challenges mean housing professionals and their legal advisers need opportunities to keep learning, share experiences and hear from those at the forefront of the sector.

For the Social Housing Law Association (SHLA), creating those opportunities is central to its purpose. For CJAM, our role is to provide the ongoing support that helps make them happen.

From membership and communications to webinars, regional activity and the Association's Annual Conference, CJAM works alongside SHLA's volunteer Committee throughout the year to turn its ideas and expertise into tangible benefits for members.

What we delivered

A joined-up programme shaped around the organisation, its members and the outcomes it needed.

Bringing the Sector Together

A major moment in SHLA's calendar is its Annual Conference, and in March 2026 CJAM supported the Association in bringing social housing professionals together at The Law Society in London for a full day of learning, discussion and networking.

The programme reflected just how much the sector is navigating.

Sessions tackled the Renters' Rights Act 2025, disrepair claims, temporary housing fraud, the Building Safety Act, the Crime and Policing Bill, Awaab's Law and other important areas of housing law and practice.

Delivering a programme of this scale involves far more than booking a venue.

CJAM supports the work surrounding the conference, including delegate management, speaker and sponsor liaison, communications, bookings, event materials, logistics and on-the-day coordination – helping create an event where SHLA's Committee and speakers can concentrate on the conversations taking place in the room.

Keeping Knowledge Moving

SHLA's support for the sector doesn't begin and end with its Annual Conference.

Throughout the year, the Association provides seminars, webinars and training addressing the legal and practical issues affecting social landlords, with activity extending across London and its regional groups in the Midlands and Wales.

Recent programmes have explored everything from anti-social behaviour and the Public Sector Equality Duty to AI in social housing, homelessness, allocation and changing housing legislation.

CJAM provides the coordination that keeps this programme moving – helping organise events, communicate them to members, manage registrations and ensure resources continue to provide value after a session has finished.

For members, that means regular opportunities to learn from experts and their peers. For the volunteer Committee, it means having a team behind them to turn ideas into well-organised, professionally delivered activity.

Supporting Membership Every Day

Much of CJAM's work with SHLA happens away from the conference stage.

We support the day-to-day membership experience: responding to enquiries, administering memberships, maintaining the website and members' area, distributing newsletters and updates, promoting events and opportunities and supporting the Committee as it develops the Association's programme.

SHLA's membership brings together local authorities, housing associations, housing and policy professionals, solicitors and barristers – each bringing a different perspective on the challenges facing social landlords.

Keeping that community informed and connected requires consistency.

Whether someone is joining SHLA, registering for a webinar, accessing a recording, reading the latest newsletter or attending the Annual Conference, CJAM helps ensure there is a professional and responsive organisation behind every interaction.

Creating the Space for SHLA to Make an Impact

SHLA is run by its members for its members. The knowledge, experience and direction come from professionals who understand the realities of social housing.

CJAM provides the infrastructure around them.

By managing the administration, communications, membership and events that underpin the Association, we give SHLA's Committee more time to concentrate on the issues that matter to the sector – sharing expertise, responding to change and helping social housing professionals navigate an increasingly complex landscape.

It's a partnership that demonstrates what good association management should achieve.

Not taking over the voice of an organisation, but giving that voice the support, structure and platform it needs to be heard.
