TyreSafe Partners with West Yorkshire Vision Zero to Drive Road Safety Ambitions

Supporting the county’s road safety initiative by providing expert tyre safety advice and guidance.

TyreSafe is delighted to announce its partnership with West Yorkshire Vision Zero, a county-wide road safety initiative committed to eliminating all traffic fatalities and severe injuries while encouraging and facilitating safer, healthier, and more equitable mobility for everyone in West Yorkshire.

This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the shared mission of both organisations to create safer roads, reduce road danger, and protect all road users. TyreSafe’s vision of achieving “zero harm to road users because of illegal or poorly maintained tyres” aligns seamlessly with West Yorkshire Vision Zero’s ambition to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured (KSI) on the region’s roads to zero by 2040.

The West Yorkshire Vision Zero initiative is a coalition of key partners, including the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, the region’s five local authorities (Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, and Wakefield), West Yorkshire Police, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, National Highways, victim support services, and road safety campaigners. The initiative is overseen by the West Yorkshire Vision Zero Board, chaired by Alison Lowe OBE, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, and strives to deliver a “Safe System” approach. This includes creating a safe and sustainable road environment, supporting active travel goals, and improving accessibility for all road users.

Tyre safety is a critical component of road safety, with illegal or poorly maintained tyres being a contributing factor in many road incidents. By joining forces with West Yorkshire Vision Zero, TyreSafe will amplify its efforts to educate drivers, businesses, and local authorities on the importance of tyre safety and correctly maintained tyres.

Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe Chair said, “Our partnership with West Yorkshire Vision Zero reflects our shared belief that no death or serious injury on our roads is acceptable. Poorly maintained or illegal tyres remain a significant risk to road safety, and by working together, we can tackle this issue head-on, ensuring safer journeys for everyone. At TyreSafe, we are proud to align our efforts with this ambitious and essential initiative to reduce fatalities and serious injuries in West Yorkshire.”

Alison Lowe, said: “We are thrilled to welcome TyreSafe as a partner in our mission to make the roads of West Yorkshire safer for everyone.

“Tyre safety is a vital part of our Safe System approach, and TyreSafe’s expertise and advocacy will play a key role in helping us achieve our Vision Zero goals.

“Together, we can ensure that all road users benefit from safer, more sustainable travel options.”

This partnership will see TyreSafe and West Yorkshire Vision Zero collaborate on awareness campaigns, educational resources, and community engagement activities to promote the importance of tyre safety across the region. By working together, the two organisations aim to make a tangible difference in reducing road danger and improving the safety of West Yorkshire’s road network.
