TyreSafe Supports Urgent Call for Action Following 2025 ALARM Survey
|
TyreSafe supports the Asphalt Industry Alliance’s (AIA) urgent call for Government action following the release of the 2025 Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (ALARM) Survey, which highlights a deteriorating road network in England and Wales. With a £17 billion repair backlog and roads being resurfaced only once every 93 years, TyreSafe stresses the impact on road safety, particularly on tyres.
As a member of the Pothole Partnership, TyreSafe is collaborating with key stakeholders to address the growing crisis of road surface degradation. The latest ALARM survey found that over 50% of local roads have less than 15 years of structural life remaining, with 12% requiring maintenance within the next year. Poorly maintained roads increase the risk of tyre damage, heightening safety risks for all road users.

TyreSafe is proud to announce a strategic partnership with BikeSafe, the UK’s leading police-led motorcycle safety initiative. This partnership aims to raise awareness among motorcyclists about the importance of regular tyre maintenance.
BikeSafe workshops – delivered by Advanced Police Motorcyclists – will now include dedicated content on tyre safety. TyreSafe Chair, Stuart Lovatt, highlighted the significance of this partnership, saying, “Tyres are the only point of contact between a motorbike and the road. Keeping them in top condition is essential for staying safe. This collaboration allows us to reinforce the importance of regular tyre checks to reduce incidents and improve rider safety.”

Surge in Motorcycle Registrations – TyreSafe Offers Vital Safety Guidance
|
With a 20% surge in new motorcycle registrations in 2024 and registrations in December 2024 up by 114% compared to the previous year, TyreSafe is urging all riders to prioritise tyre safety this Spring. As more riders hit the road – for leisure, commuting, or work – it’s essential that they perform regular tyre checks, particularly after long periods of storage. Spring conditions bring unpredictable weather and potential road hazards such as potholes and debris, increasing the need for properly maintained tyres.
TyreSafe is launching new motorcycle tyre safety resources to provide essential guidance to riders and road safety partners, ensuring everyone on two wheels is prepared for a safer season ahead.
