Spring is upon us, and with that the warmer weather and the increased likelihood of motorists taking to the road for business and pleasure.

We want to make sure drivers enjoy their next adventure without the potential pitfalls and even disastrous consequences of driving on defective tyres.

‘Where will your tyres take you today’ plays on a sense of adventure, showing sun kissed destinations, fun and exploration, alongside the potentially disastrous outcomes for drivers, passengers and other road users if that journey is made on defective or neglected tyres.

  1. Regular Checks: Perform basic tyre checks using the A.C.T acronym – Air pressure, Condition, Tread. Check your tyres at least once a month, every month and before long journeys.
  2. Stay Safe: Avoid potential dangers such as breakdowns, fines, and accidents by ensuring your tyres are in good condition.
  3. Enjoy the Journey: Whether it’s a family day out, a road trip, or a motorcycle adventure, make sure your tyres are ready for the ride.
[bs-text title=”Remember to A.C.T:” show_title=”1″ icon=”” title_link=”” heading_color=”” heading_style=”t3-s3″ heading_tag=”h2″ bs-show-desktop=”1″ bs-show-tablet=”1″ bs-show-phone=”1″ bs-text-color-scheme=”” css=”” custom-css-class=”” custom-id=”” hcbrwpb_visible_for_roles=”logged_out”]

The A.C.T acronym is the cornerstone of our campaigns, and provides a simple, easy-to-remember checklist of the basic checks motorists can perform regularly to ensure their tyres are safe.

Air pressure – The air pressure of each tyre should also be checked using an accurate gauge. Typically, car manufacturers recommend two different tyre pressures, one for light loads and another for when the vehicle is fully loaded. It’s essential that drivers adjust the pressures to accommodate the load they are carrying. These settings can be found in the vehicle handbook, on reputable internet tyre pressure charts such as the one at tyresafe.org, and often in the vehicle’s fuel filler cap or door sill.

Condition – with a visual check, looking at the overall condition of each tyre to see if anything might have penetrated the tread, such as nails or other objects. If any of these objects, cracks or bulges are present, the driver should seek professional advice immediately.

Tread – drivers should check the tread of their tyres to ensure they are above the UK legal  tread depth minimum of 1.6mm. Ideally an accurate tread depth gauge should be used but if this is not available, a 20p coin can be used as a guide. Insert the 20p into the main sections of the tyre and at various points around the circumference – should you see the outer rim at any point, you need to have the tread depth checked as it may be illegal.
