Alive to Drive Event a Huge Success in its 15th Year
The multi-agency road safety day “Alive to Drive” was this year held at Leyland Tesco Extra on 13th and 14th May by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and Chorley Advanced Motorists.
TyreSafe members, ProTyre, attended to help drive home the tyre safety message, performing checks and advising drivers on best practice and safety guidance. The event was also attended by emergency services, National Highways, blood bikes, Lancashire Road Safety Partnership, alongside other businesses and road safety organisations to educate and support Lancashire residents in all areas of road safety.
There were Fire and Rescue Service collision extrication demonstrations that took place at 11 am and 2pm each day that attracted large crowds.
The Alive to Drive campaign has enabled 275 people locally to complete the Chorley Advanced Motorists course, and the event is now believed to be the largest road safety event in Lancashire.
TyreSafe Chair, Stuart Lovatt, attended the town centre two-day event as part of a wider initiative to position tyre safety firmly on the road safety map across the UK. He said This was an excellent opportunity for TyreSafe to support local road safety partners in a key safety event in Lancashire. This year, following a request from Tyresafe to our members in the Leyland and Chorley area, ProTyre attended for both days to directly support all those partner organisations who were in attendance. This was a great opportunity to support the local community and wider community safety messages as well as building their own customer base with local residents.
Julie Whitworth, from Chorley Advanced Motorists said “The aim of the Alive to Drive event is to raise the profile of road safety and driver skills by encouraging drivers of all ages to improve their awareness, skills and attitudes to driving by undertaking the advanced driving course with Chorley Advanced Motorists.
Clare Burscough, road safety coordinator for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service added “The Alive to Drive event is a great opportunity for the public to meet their local emergency services and learn about all aspects of road safety.”
