TyreSafe’s initiatives continue to be driven by robust research and data, ensuring that our campaigns are impactful and evidence-based. This dedication was recognised when we received a Prince Michael of Kent International Road Safety Award for our work in promoting safer vehicles and conducting unique research that informs our future actions.
Another highlight of 2024 was the inclusion of specific tyre safety recommendations in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA)’s National Accident Prevention Strategy. For the first time in over 100 years, this strategy urges the Government to focus on defective vehicles and tyre safety, underlining the urgency of our mission.
- Vision – Zero harm to road users in the UK due to tyre-related incidents.
- Mission – Empower road users with tyre safety knowledge to reduce incidents caused by poorly maintained or illegal tyres.
TyreSafe’s work in 2024 focused on more than just raising awareness – it aimed to create real behavioural change. This was exemplified by our “Caught in the ACT” Tyre Safety Month campaign, which achieved record-breaking reach, media coverage, and public engagement.
We tackled pressing industry issues, including:
- Addressing the rise in pothole-related tyre damage.
- Advocating for the retention of MoT testing intervals, vital for identifying defective tyres.
- Highlighting the importance of tyre checks during electric vehicle charging breaks.
Our campaigns are about influencing attitudes and encouraging proactive tyre safety behaviour, ensuring tyre safety remains integral to road safety conversations.

TyreSafe thrives on collaboration, working alongside over 130 organisations from government, local authorities, emergency services, and road safety communities. This year, we:
- Reunited in person for a full-day Annual Briefing in June, featuring expert speakers addressing key industry issues.
- Strengthened partnerships with supporters across digital and on-the-ground campaigns.
- Welcomed new members to our Steering Committee, bringing fresh perspectives from the road safety and tyre industries.
As we build on our successes, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our partners and supporters. Your dedication and collaboration have been instrumental in making 2024 TyreSafe’s most successful year yet in terms of reach, coverage, and status.
The year ahead is full of promise. Together, we will innovate, campaign, and advocate for safer roads, driving ever closer to our vision of zero tyre-related incidents.
Mark your calendars for our next Annual Briefing on 10th June 2025 at the National Motorcycle Museum. We look forward to welcoming you as we continue our mission to make every journey safer.
