TyreSafe Partners with BikeSafe to Promote Motorcycle Safety and Tyre Maintenance

TyreSafe, the UK’s tyre safety charity, is proud to announce a strategic partnership with BikeSafe, the UK’s number one police-led motorcycle safety initiative. This collaboration is set to raise awareness among motorcyclists about the critical role that regular tyre maintenance plays in road safety.

BikeSafe, facilitated by highly skilled Advanced Police Motorcyclists, is a nationwide road safety initiative designed to improve motorcycle rider skills through eLearning, theory workshops, and observed rides.

By joining forces with BikeSafe, TyreSafe aims to drive home its message that the condition of a motorbike’s tyres is just as important as a rider’s skills on the road.

The partnership focuses on encouraging all motorcyclists to regularly check their tyres for correct pressure, adequate tread depth, and signs of wear or damage. As part of BikeSafe’s workshops, attendees will now also be guided through the importance of tyre maintenance in improving motorcycle control, grip, and safety.

Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe Chair, said: “We are delighted to partner with BikeSafe in our shared mission of promoting road safety. Tyres are the only point of contact between a motorbike and the road, so keeping them in top condition is essential for staying safe. Motorcyclists who make tyre checks part of their routine will greatly reduce their risk of incidents, especially in challenging conditions. This collaboration allows us to reach motorcyclists at the grassroots level and reinforce the message that regular tyre maintenance is a vital aspect of road safety.”

BikeSafe workshops, already focused on critical aspects like attitude, observation, and hazard awareness, will now include dedicated content on the importance of tyre care. Properly maintained tyres not only improve handling but also significantly reduce stopping distances, making a well-maintained bike safer on the road.

Deputy Chief Constable Simon Blatchly OBE, strategic lead at the NPCC’s Police BikeSafe (UK), said, “Tyre safety is a fundamental but often overlooked aspect of motorcycle roadworthiness. Through this partnership with TyreSafe, we are reinforcing the message that regular tyre checks should be second nature to every rider. A well-maintained bike, including its tyres, is essential for reducing risks and ensuring safer journeys. We welcome TyreSafe’s expertise in this area and look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on rider safety across the UK.”

Motorcyclists across the UK are encouraged to take part in BikeSafe workshops, equipping themselves with the skills and knowledge to enjoy safer, more controlled riding – and to ensure their tyres are road-ready every time they set off.
