TyreSafe Welcomes the Road Safety Trust as a New Official Supporter
TyreSafe is proud to announce that the Road Safety Trust has joined as an official supporter of our ongoing efforts to promote tyre safety and road safety awareness across the UK. As an independent grant-giving charity, the Road Safety Trust plays a vital role in making the country’s roads safer for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, mobility scooter users, car drivers, lorry and van drivers, and motorcyclists.
The Road Safety Trust supports innovative road safety projects and research through its grant programmes, offering funding for initiatives designed to reduce the number of people killed or injured on UK roads. Grants provided by the Trust range from £10,000 to £500,000, depending on the funding round, and can be awarded for up to two or three years. This funding supports a variety of practical interventions focused on education, engineering, and enforcement—ensuring a safer road environment for everyone.
The Road Safety Trust’s wholly-owned subsidiary, UKROEd, is a not-for-profit organisation that manages the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS). This scheme offers driver awareness courses to individuals involved in minor traffic offences, helping to educate road users and improve behaviour. A portion of the fees from these courses supports the Trust’s grant-making programmes, ensuring a sustainable impact on road safety in the UK.
As an advocate for practical interventions, the Road Safety Trust’s contributions help drive meaningful change in road safety, supporting education programmes, engineering solutions, and enforcement strategies designed to reduce road incidents.
The partnership between TyreSafe and the Road Safety Trust reflects a shared commitment to reducing road casualties by focusing on preventive measures. Tyre safety is a critical component of road safety, as worn, underinflated, or damaged tyres significantly increase the risk of incidents.
Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe Chair said “We are thrilled to welcome the Road Safety Trust as an official supporter. Their work in funding road safety research and practical interventions is invaluable, and we look forward to collaborating on initiatives that can make a real difference. Together, we aim to reduce tyre-related incidents and help all road users arrive safely at their destinations.”
“Checking the pressure, condition and tread of all your tyres once a month, every month and before a long journey is excellent advice,” says UKROEd chief executive Ruth Purdie OBE. “If you don’t know what to look for in a safe tyre, then do consult the tyresafe.org website which has plenty of useful information that will help you keep your tyres in the best possible condition as well as assist in identifying potentially dangerous defects.”
With the support of the Road Safety Trust, TyreSafe will continue to strengthen its message of road safety, encouraging motorists to prioritise tyre maintenance and make informed decisions that protect both themselves and others on the road.
