TyreSafe and Ring Automotive are celebrating five years of working in partnership to promote tyre…

TyreSafe joins the Motorcycle Industry Association
TyreSafe, the UK tyre safety charity, has joined the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) to increase awareness of tyre safety among motorcyclists, other Powered Two Wheelers (PTWs), and L-Category vehicles. This category includes a range of powered two- and three-wheelers such as motorbikes, mopeds, quadricycles, and microcars.
As part of this collaboration, TyreSafe will work alongside MCIA to promote the vital role of tyre safety in motorcycle maintenance and encourage riders to make informed decisions about tyre checks, purchasing, and maintenance. This partnership is a key part of TyreSafe’s wider effort to reach different road user groups and embed tyre safety into everyday road safety conversations.
Supporting Riders – Why It Matters
Motorcyclists face unique challenges on the road, and their safety depends heavily on the performance of their tyres. Unlike cars, motorcycles only have two points of contact with the road, meaning tyre condition is even more critical for grip, stability, and braking performance.
TyreSafe’s partnership with MCIA ensures that riders have access to expert advice, practical guidance, and safety-led initiatives tailored specifically to their needs. Whether it’s daily commuters, weekend riders, or delivery riders, TyreSafe is committed to helping all motorcyclists stay safe by ensuring their tyres are properly maintained and fit for purpose.
Why Motorcycle Tyre Safety is Critical
Tyre condition is one of the most overlooked yet essential aspects of motorcycle safety. Poorly maintained or underinflated tyres can lead to:
- Reduced grip and stability – increasing the risk of skidding or losing control.
- Longer stopping distances – making emergency braking less effective.
- Increased risk of punctures or blowouts – which can be life-threatening at high speeds.
- Faster tyre wear and reduced performance – leading to costly replacements and unpredictable handling.
Regular tyre checks, including monitoring tread depth, pressure, and overall condition, can make all the difference in preventing incidents and ensuring a smoother, safer ride. By working with MCIA, TyreSafe aims to make tyre checks a routine part of every rider’s safety mindset.
This partnership is one of several road safety collaborations that TyreSafe is developing to extend the reach of its life-saving ‘Safe Tyres Save Lives’ message. By working with MCIA and other industry leaders, TyreSafe can amplify its voice, ensuring that tyre safety remains a top priority for riders, policymakers, and road safety organisations.
TyreSafe joins MCIA as an honorary member, gaining access to MCIA’s extensive resources, including press statistics, campaign materials, event opportunities, and government lobbying. In turn, MCIA becomes a TyreSafe member, benefitting from TyreSafe’s growing library of tyre safety campaign materials, press kits, and expert guidance tailored specifically to motorcycles and PTWs.
The MCIA represents over 90% of the supply side of the motorcycle industry, including manufacturers, importers, accessory and component suppliers, and service providers. By working closely with government agencies, police, press, and road safety organisations, MCIA plays a crucial role in promoting safe and sustainable riding across the UK.
Tony Campbell, CEO, MCIA, said, “I am delighted to welcome TyreSafe into membership of MCIA. Through the Elite Rider initiative, we aim to reduce rider casualties and improve skills. Working with TyreSafe on this shared goal will contribute to this and allow us to reinforce the importance of choosing the right tyres and how to maintain them correctly as another key element to keeping riders safe.”
TyreSafe Chair, Stuart Lovatt, said, “This is a really pivotal partnership for TyreSafe, as we want to make sure we reach every rider and driver with our message. As we continue to work closely together, we will look to identify campaigns and initiatives that we can collaborate on to amplify each other’s messages across our memberships and their respective audiences.
Tyre safety is extremely important for all vehicles, as tyres are the only point of contact with the road. For motorcyclists, this is even more critical, which is why we want to work with the MCIA to ensure riders are equipped with the best advice to promote safe and sustainable riding.”
