“Grit,” in psychology, is a positive non-cognitive trait based on an individual’s perseverance of effort combined with the passion for a particular long-term goal or end state. Concepts within the definitions of grit include “perseverance,” “hardiness,” “resilience,” and “ambition.”
Recent studies have addressed this topic from various perspectives. This particular example considers the role of grit in the success of entrepreneurs, that is individuals who set up a business or businesses, perhaps with innovating ideas that fill a perceived void.
The research led to a deeper understanding of what grit is and pinpointed four particular factors explaining how it can be developed. Findings from the study can assist existing entrepreneurs in developing grit, as well as offering information on how to develop grit when entrepreneurs are thinking about starting their own business, equipping them for their entrepreneurial journey.
