Reducing Evaluative Bias in psychometrics and what this means for recruitment and development.
18 June 2019 at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Towards an inclusive way of measuring individual differences.
Presenting the latest research around the measurement of personality, Stewart Desson, CEO of Lumina Learning, outlines the merits and implications of taking a humanistic approach to personality measurement compared with traditional methods, which are often highly reductionist and can result in labelling and typing people. In particular, he addresses the often un-addressed issue of ‘evaluative bias’ that is inherent in how many psychometrics describe and measure traits (e.g. describing Extraverted traits more favourably than Introverted traits) and the knock-on implications of this in both development and recruitment contexts. He explores taking a more dynamic interpretation of personality by recognising the interplay between our natural selves, our everyday selves and how we can overplay our strengths. He will demonstrate the need to ‘embrace paradox’ by recognising that most of us possess a mix of paradoxical qualities, which is often overlooked in traditional models. The session will be experiential and allow attendees to apply and experience this framework for themselves.
All attendees will also be able to receive a complimentary Lumina Spark portrait after the session.
