Society is ageing and yet what governments and organisations are doing to prepare for this falls far short of the mark. As Psychologists, we as a field are remarkably uninformed about the psychology of ageing. This talk will give a little further insight into what people want and need as they get older to remain active and engaged in the world of work. Much of what we need to understand sits firmly within the field of psychology – understanding drivers and motivations as well as context and social support networks. The talk will question if recruitment and selection processes are falling short of the psychological mark for the ageing employee and some
Lucy is a co-founder of Brave Starts CIC – a non-profit helping people as they get older to consider and figure out what they want to do next. She is an expert in the field of mid and later life career development and through Brave Starts, she is building the research and insight to ensure actions taken whether by individuals or organisations are based on evidence of what works.
Lucy is a Chartered Psychologist, Associate Fellow with the British Psychological Society and Certified Principle Psychologist with the Association for Business Psychology. Her fondness for the ABP is profound given she was a volunteer for 10 years, 6 of which were as Vice Chair. Prior to her non-profit career, she worked in the strategy consulting and investment banking sectors as a Psychologist.
