Session Synopsis

The whole subject of purposeful leadership has become a bit of a bandwagon of late and Covid and the Black Lives Matter agenda has accentuated this trend. However, meaningful work in this area requires thought, rigour and clarity. Without this, a lot of the work can risk being tokenistic, superficial or self-indulgent. The session will focus on three key areas:

  • Helping organisations to think rigorously about how they define their purpose to ensure that it is both invigorating, rooted and credible.
  • How individual leaders can be helped to clarify their personal purpose and link it to the organisational purpose and how they help others to do likewise.
  • How leaders use purposeful leadership to drive engagement, impact and results.

The opportunities and risks to avoid in each of these areas will be explored. Gurnek Bains is Managing partner of Global Future, a consulting firm that has extensive experience of this field. He is also author of Meaning Inc and was co-founder and CEO for 25 years of the consulting firm, YSC.
